The Process and Our Services

Because we focus on individualized training, it’s hard for us to actually describe a typical session and the typical long-term path. However, we do believe that it would be useful to see how our full set of services (shown below) fits into your family’s journey.

Treatment Planning and Evaluation

Our Licensed Behavior Analysts (LBAs) perform an initial assessment to determine the skill level in the areas of language, basic learning skills, academic, self-help, and motor abilities. Assessment may also include a barrier assessment (an assessment of any barrier that may impede on treatment). Typically, an assessment is conducted over two or three sessions, each which run approximately two hours long. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to share information they have about the learner’s abilities. Additionally, it is also an opportunity for caregivers to share their concerns and to identify the priorities they wish for the intervention. Once the assessment is complete, the LBA will discuss the assessment with you and go over all the goals he or she intends to set for your loved one. Depending on your insurance provider, additional treatment planning hours may be requested by your LBA. These hours will be used throughout the treatment process by the LBA in order to monitor progress, make program changes, design instructional materials, and write any treatment or behavior plans.

Time involved: 2 to 4 hours every 6 months

Direct Care

A therapist will provide one-on-one services using ABA to help your loved one gain the skills relevant to the goals outlined in the treatment plan.

Time involved: ranges from 10 to 40 hours per week, but typically lands around 15 to 20 hours per week. As we mentioned, our services are individualized and so the amount of hours per week solely depends on the goals and needs of your loved one.

How can ABA help your child?

ABA can help improve behavior in the following ways:

Language Development and Functional Communication:

Communicating wants and needs

Health and Safety:

Skills such as responding to “stop”, producing identification

Self-Help Skills:

Skills such as feeding, dressing, and hygiene.

Social Skills:

Conversation, sharing.

Play:

Appropriate, functional, and independent play.

Imitation:

Copying the behavior of others.

Listener Behavior:

Attending and responding to spoken words.

Speaker Behavior:

Using language to communicate with another person.

Community Skills:

Promoting independence while in the community.

Behavior:

Decreasing harmful behaviors that impede learning, independence, or safety.

Supervision

Every learner will also be assigned his or her own supervisor. These supervisors are typically the LBA’s who completed the original evaluation and assessment at the start of treatment and created all the goals set for your loved one. Our supervisors measure progress and skill acquisition rates and provide you with updates and address any questions that you may have. In addition, the supervisors are also responsible for so much more. Such as, supervising and/or training therapists, scheduling parent meetings with you, attending IEP meetings, working with lawyers to increase authorized hours, or even coordinating with other providers so they’re filled in on what’s being done on our end to help your loved one.

Time involved: 1 to 3 hours per week.

Caregiver Training / Treatment Guidance

You are unequivocally important to the success of your loved one. That’s why we require caregiver training to give you the tools to help continue training even when we’re not there. We subscribe to the philosophy that it takes a village to raise a child, so we want to equip that village with the best strategies available to help your learner grow as quickly as possible. The amount of caregiver training/treatment guidance will be recommended by your LBA based on your loved one’s current areas of need. Typically, training is conducted on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.

Time involved: 1 to 2 hours per week.
